A Halloween Party with a Wedding Theme at Belle Meade Plantation

Erin and Matt were married at Belle Meade Plantation on Saturday, October 27. They decided to go all out for halloween and turn their reception into a masquerade ball.

The ceremony was held in the stables and the reception in the carriage house. In keeping with the halloween theme, they lit their unity candles with a magic wand!

We managed to capture the post ceremony formal shots in a hurry to take advantage of the last bit of light at dusk. Its my favorite time to shoot because of the great color you can get in the sky.

A Nightmare Before Christmas wedding cake!

I set up a photobooth with a dark backdrop so the snow from my snow machine would show up a little better.

Following are a few of the bridal portraits we captured before the wedding date. We started at Rippavilla Plantation and shot the last half at Mt. Olivet Cemetary.

A few from Rippavilla Plantation

You might as well get a little ghostly and dramatic if you are shooting in a cemetery.

Wedding on the Beach and Portraits in the Ocean – Santa Rosa Beach, Florida

Shannon and Chris – October 20, 2012 Wedding in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida

In lieu of a honeymoon, Shannon and Chris invited their friends and family to stay in two gigantic beach houses for a memorable week of swimming, grilling, and wild nights in the lead-up to their wedding. They held their ceremony on the beach at sunset and the reception was poolside at the larger of the two beach houses which all the residents of the neighborhood referred to as simply “the party house”.  It was a beautiful ceremony and an epic party!

Fun with Pumpkins and Photobooth at Riverwood Mansion

October 13, 2012 Wedding at Riverwood Mansion for Stephanie and Chase

The girls got ready in the pink room upstairs before we headed outside to take advantage of the amazing weather for some pre ceremony portraits of the wedding party.

This was such a colorful wedding! Just check out the ring bearer’s purple suspenders and the bride’s bouquet.
I had a little too much fun with the pumpkins as props but if you are going to have an October wedding you might as well do a headless horseman pose.

My goal is always to get un-boring photos and when I look at these expressions I think I accomplished my goal. I love a fun wedding party!

This was the first time that I brought my snow machine for the photobooth and I thought it looked great on the colorful background! The photobooth was set up in the pavillion near the dance floor so it stayed pretty busy all night long.

Wedding at Fanny Mae Dees Park a.k.a. Dragon Park

“We want to be nestled in the dragon” is how the groom described his vision for the wedding ceremony when he explained that the wedding would take place at Fanny Mae Dees Park. The park, also known as Dragon Park is located just outside Blair School of Music on the Vanderbilt campus. Lawson is a percussionist and producer and Mary Jo is a violinist. They live in Brooklyn but they both studied music at Blair as children. I actually took years of cello lessons there myself and I have fond memories of running over to play on the dragon as my brother took his own private lessons. I imagine Lawson and Mary Jo have similar fond memories and I was really excited about the unique plan for this wedding.  Also, I was excited about this wedding because Lawson was a close friend of mine in high school and I knew there would be familiar faces!

The rehearsal dinner was equally unique. It was held at Ben Folds’ studio, a.k.a. RCA Studio A.  At the end of the evening, after most of the guests had left, I had a chance to catch up with some old friends as one of the studio engineers spun a few records that were recorded in the historic studio.  It was a pretty great moment.

I should mention that Mary Jo made this dress herself! The wedding reception was held at Ruby, a beautiful event venue which is conveniently located right beside Dragon Park and across from Blair. The guests were given square dancing lessons which made my job easy since the expressions were priceless. All those who were up for it made their way down to Broadway to visit the honky tonks which always makes for colorful photos!

Wedding at Carnton Plantation in Franklin | Shawn and Linda Claire

Shawn and Linda Claire were married on a beautiful Sunday in October at Carnton Plantation in Franklin, Tennessee. We spent most of the afternoon exploring the grounds for photos and even ventured into the nearby confederate cemetery as well as some beautiful fields and gardens. There was amazing golden afternoon light, a gorgeous sunset and even hot air balloons flying over during the ceremony.  With a day like this it would be hard to go wrong but I lucked out with an adventurous wedding party and we got to spend the afternoon laughing and having fun. I love my job! Sometimes its just too easy!

I couldn’t stop laughing at the way Shawn posed face-down in the grass for the above series! It was a difficult decision whether to show this version or the one where he was mangled in a really unnatural way.
A little tongue-in-cheek fashion shot above rocking the “bridal fruit”.  I thought they nailed it!
